Financial Assistance
Getting Started…
Whether you have saved for your child’s college or not, college is expensive. Apply! Apply! Apply!!! All the resources say to apply each year, for anything for which you may qualify…never pay someone to find money for you.
The first step and the main step is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Go to the FAFSA website and apply for a PIN (personal identification number). Parent/Guardian and students will also need the following information in order to complete the FAFSA application: Social Security No.; Driver’s License; most recent W-2 form(s) and other records of money earned; most recent year’s Federal Income Tax Return; most recent year’s untaxed income records; most recent year’s bank statements; most recent year’s business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stocks, bonds, and other investment records (if applicable); Alien registration card (if you are not a US citizen).
The form can be filled out the first time after January 1st of your child’s senior year. The form must be filled out or renewed every year your child is in college in order to be eligible for financial aid. Suggestion: Begin in December gathering data needed for the FAFSA.
Perkins Loans - Good source of financial assistance. These loans are obtained through the college/university where student attends.
